Salt, the new thriller propulsion Phillip Noyce (Clear and Present Danger, Patriot Games), has been nicknamed "The Bourne with breasts", but the label is not entirely accurate. Salt one of those thrillers the dark backstory slowly and in small parties, the time, dropping a bomb that actually reveals that blows the lid of what happened before. Nobody is what they seem, and every action, every gesture, apparently innocuous, is imbued with a sort of great importance. The effect of accumulation in a crazy turn after another has the effect of diluting progressive history. When all is possible, nothing really matters.

But spy novels, by definition, trade in the absurd, and the main function the blockbuster summer fun. In this sense, more salt fills his office. Noyce wisely keeps the story moving at a pace that leaves little time for ask questions at home or make holes in the ground fragile film. And he has a partner that could in the infinitely versatile Jolie who, having shown great hero chops action movies Wanted and Tomb Raider, is very intelligent game of espionage.

Jolie is well known that was not the first option to play in the salt, only joining the project after losing Tom Cruise, citing a growing history of similarities with the Mission: Impossible movies. But it is more than capable replacement, is a welcome update faster not least because it has more of a decade younger (and a few inches taller) than its predecessor. If Brad Bird needs a pinch hitter for Ethan Hunt, who knows where to look.
